Music, Mosquitoes & Mugginess

Play, Mama, Play

I had some real soul food today– in Orlando, Florida. I am able to pretend I am back in my home state of Louisiana each time I walk outside and feel that curtain of heat and humidity. When the fat hairy mosquitoes congregate around my bare legs, vying for my now-virgin, California-spoiled flesh, I am too drained to fight.

A reprieve: my mother playing her Blues Hawk guitar behind my ear, stirring blood and memory.
